Data migration complete. Old school users moved over to the new system. New look turned on. UK, Dutch and American numbers enabled. After a weekend of testing we’re pretty happy with it so we’re letting it loose!

It’s still invite only but if you have an account, login and check it out. Any wobbliness let us know on: http://getsatisfaction.com/treasuremytext

Treasuremytext invites via mashable

You can now get an invite to the new Treasuremytext beta via Mashable Invites.

“Mashable Invites is a place to swap invites for “Web 2.0″ sites that are currently in private beta mode. Just add your name to an invites list and other Mashable Invites members will drop by and invite you.”

As mashable fans we’re pretty happy about that - and it means we get invites to other cool apps too!

We’ve been busy making a brand new version of Treasuremytext and we’re about to relaunch it with a host of new features to make saving your SMS even better. So what’s new in Treasuremytext 2?

Friends, lovers, fans, contacts
You already know the importance of keeping those treasured messages from your friends, and the new Treasuremytext lets you keep in touch with your friends even better.

Super slick new interface
We made it even easier to manage your messages; make your own folders and drag and drop.

Text Streams
Make your own public page for your favorite messages; show them off to the world!

What’s everyone else texting?
Text Streams are also a great way to follow friends old and new. Check out the Text Streams from other Treasuremytext users; add the best to your favorites and see what everybody else sends, and saves by SMS.

Take your SMS with you

Are you a Facebook fan or bebo babe, or want to publish your latest messages on your blog? We’re working on tools to let you plug your treasured messages into your other spaces online.

International SMS
With super low cost international SMS you can send messages all around the world from as little as 5 Euro Cents. And when your friends reply to messages you send from Treasuremytext you get the reply on your phone.

iPhone Archiving
If you’re an iPhone user, we’ll be making it easy for you to archive your SMS from your iPhone over your data connection. With no need to send messages by SMS, treasuring them will be easier than ever.

We’re in Beta
We’ve been running an invite only beta to get a few testers trying out the new site and checking it all works like it should. We got great feedback and incorporated a few new additions, tweaks and suggestions and it’s nearly ready. If you really can’t wait to try out the new site, visit our new beta site, for a sneak preview, or catch up on new developments on the blog.

Coming soon!
If you’re an existing user at Treasuremytext we’ll let you know as soon as the new service is ready for you. In the New Year we will move all existing user accounts over to the new system. All you need to do is keep treasuring your SMS as normal. When you log into the new site, they’ll all be there waiting for you and you’ll be able to do a whole lot more with your messages.

Love your SMS!

Just forward your message to +31 billion 621 Million 224 Thousand 500 and 80.

BT Landline PhoneWhilst testing out a user registration today we inadvertently discovered a cool feature for people in the UK. You can send text messages to regular BT landlines in the UK from Treasuremytext (or any mobile for that matter). After sending a message it works like this. The phone begins to ring and you get the message that was sent read out by a rather good sounding artificial posh English woman. Unfortunately BT Text doesn’t have the ability to forward messages so you can’t then save them with us. They also destroy your messages after 24 hours so it might have been nice. If there was a forward option though it may have proved a little tricky to figure out how to actually send it too the cryptically interpreted Plus 31 billion, 621 million 224 thousand 500 and 80. (If you’re wondering what that is, it’s our phone number,  - +31621224580 but the BT message lady converts it to a very big number indeed!) It sounds more like a statistical probability number from the HitchHikers Guide than a phone number.

Ivan Trajkovic at European Startups has  featured Treasuremytext on his blog. Thanks Ivan… and we love the blog by the way.

Also really cool is the European Startup of the month competition. You can vote for your favorite European Startup of the month.  To show your support, vote for us here - and whilst we don’t have as many votes yet as some of the super popular EU startups - such as Mr Wong for example; it’s still all good fun!

Sexy SMS @ Ignite @ Web2.0 Expo Berlin

1886013199_f3386ae6f2.jpg

Yesterday I presented a quick presentation on “Sexy SMS” as part of ‘Ignite‘ at Web2expo Berlin. We were excited enough at the thought of presenting to the expo crowd in a bar after the keynote by Tim O’Reilly, but a change of location meant that Ignite took place directly following Tim’s keynote in the main venue!  Pretty neat!

I wanted to share what we had learnt about SMS - how and what people really send by SMS, why it is a sexy technology in terms of the nature of a lot of our ‘treasured texts’ but also in terms of its ever increasing popularity.

The Mobile Data Association announced yesterday that: “Over one billion text messages are sent every week in the UK, with September 2007 reaching an average of over 1.2 billion messages every week, the same number of messages sent during the whole of 1999.” From: 160 Characters.

Indeed 1.2 million messages were sent in the UK during the course of my 5 minute presentation.  So my presentation of SMS messages sent to treasuremytext highlighted trends in what and how people send by SMS - I presented a range of messages, and I think the audience liked it; there were at least a few giggles in the audience.

The presentation is on slideshare here: http://www.slideshare.net/katielips/sexy-sms

We’re live & you’re invited!

It’s still invite only for now - but mail me (katie) for an invite and you’ll be invited. Please check it out and add any comments via our Facebook Group.

Treasuremytext Manifesto

manifesto.gif
We’re aiming to be pretty open about what we’re making with Treasuremytext2 and why. We know our current community of Treasuremytext users love the service and we want as many people as possible to get to know Treasuremytext2; which one the one hand is a ‘next generation’ Treasuremytext, and on the other hand is a brand new app for a new era of web and mobile apps.

So we wanted to share our Treasuremytext Manifesto, which sheds light on why we do what we do! We’re also working on defining a set of principles for great design (or our mobile+webapp) which we’ll share just as soon as we’re happy with it.

The Treasuremytext Manifesto

  • Mobile is personal. Mobile content and communication is important to people.
  • Just because it’s mobile doesn’t mean it’s throwaway. We’re human after all.
  • Some people want to keep some SMS messages forever. It’s a fact!
  • Some people want to keep their SMS secret. Shh!
  • The web is a great place to do stuff. Big screens and handy stuff like AJAX make it quick and very functional.
  • Simple technology is good: for everyone.

This set of principles is what we knew when we first conceived Treasuremytext. In fact, we’ve been treasuring texts since 2003 and we’ve learnt a lot about what works, what doesn’t and why people want to do this and why people love the service. Watch this space for the next generation Treasuremytext2. Like the original but way, way better!

The new Treasuremytext blog

Hello and welcome to the Treasuremytext Blog. This is where we’ll be discussing all the developments at Treasuremytext.  Treasuremytext is a SMS storage service where people save their favorite mobile content online. We’re about to launch Treasuremytext Version 2 which is a new Web2.0 application. This blog will cover a range of updates on the application, the technologies we’re using, mobile apps in general, and any exciting announcements we have in the run up to launch.
