DNS Issue!

If you’re seeing the Treasuremytext blog (this page) when you wanted Treasuremytext.com its because we’re having a little problem with our DNS. It will be resolved soon. We hope. For now use the Beta site link to get there

Interview on Sprout (NL)

We’ve been interviewed by Tonie van Ringelestijn for Sprout.nl a Dutch Technology Business Publication. The interview’s about why we chose to base part of our operations in Amsterdam; because we really like the startup culture there.

Sorry about the emails and SMS

We had a bit of an error this morning whilst testing something that resulted in the site sending lots of email/sms messages to everyone subscribed to my TextStream. Sincere apologies if you were one of the recipients. Preventative measures are being taken to stop it happening again, but enough excuses because it shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

Treasuremytext 2.0 is live (finally)…

Data migration complete. Old school users moved over to the new system. New look turned on. UK, Dutch and American numbers enabled. After a weekend of testing we’re pretty happy with it so we’re letting it loose!

It’s still invite only but if you have an account, login and check it out. Any wobbliness let us know on: http://getsatisfaction.com/treasuremytext

Treasuremytext is being updated, we’ll be back soon (at last!)

Treasuremytext is down for a few hours whilst we move all our users over to the new system (at last!!) Yes, we’re coming out of invite only beta soon. Yes you can use the new system very soon. If you’ve been a Treasuremytext user for a while you’ll soon notice some pretty big changes around here. If you’ve been using the beta, you’ll also notice some pretty big changes!

While the site is down, SMS services are operating normally and messages will saved normally. iPhone application services at this time may be interrupted or unavailable.

Check back here in a few hours for updates!

Treasuremytext to launch free service (and to create “client applications”)

free_treasuremytext.jpg

Following a review of what our customers are telling us and prior to launching our new Treasuremytext 2 service, we’re announcing a new pricing structure and revenue model.

Treasuremytext is going to be free. $0.00. EUR 0-. £0.00. Zero! This follows previous announcements that we will operate the service under a ‘Freemium model’ with free limited accounts and paid unlimited accounts.  So why the change of heart and how will Treasuremytext make money?

We know from experience that people will pay a premium for an unlimited account at Treasuremytext but we see this cost represents a barrier to some users who would otherwise happily use the service for free. Furthermore the trials of our beta “Treasuremytext for iPhone” application have been very successful indeed; far surpassing expectations of take up amongst international iPhone users.

Treasuremytext therefore will offer a free service to those users globally who ‘treasure their texts’ by sending them to the service via SMS (the user pays their network operator the cost of the SMS). In addition we will develop client applications (for example the Treasuremytext for iPhone) which we will charge for. Apple’s recent release of the iPhone SDK will enable a marketplace for applications for iPhone.  In addition to a premium edition of Treasuremytext for iPhone, we may work in partnership with developers to create clients for other devices, (for example for S60 phones). The handset application marketplace is growing and having tested the marketplace with our beta Treasuremytext for iPhone application we are confident that a Treasuremytext for *other devices* will be a success. Having carried out significant work on our Treasuremytext API, we are already part way there to launching a suite of apps. Exact plans for the API and subsequent partnerships will be announced soon.

In addition to client applications, we are also exploring plans to enable third party use of the Treasuremytext platform and ways in which we can integrate with value add services enabling users to do more with their SMS; for example, but not limited to: on demand printing of SMS  / Text Books, or t-shirts from the application.

Treasuremytext 2 will come out of invite only beta soon (March 2008).

Talking startups, and other things at Barcamp Manchester today

barcamp_generic_3.jpg

I’m at Barcamp Manchester (UK) today. It seems like a great event for meeting old friends, new 2.0 people in the north west and other new acquaintances. (By the way Mary and Adam - you’re late!) I’m also hoping to meet up with Imran Ali from Mobile Messaging 2.0 for a chat.

I’m writing this from a session on microformats - so far, all very cool. I may do a session later on about our experiences of bootstrapping Treasuremytext - 10 15 mistakes and things to learn for wanna be web entrepreneurs?
